Welcome to Mommin with Monsters! I’m Casey, the Mother of Monsters (a.k.a. MoM).
To be completely honest with you, this blog started as a creative outlet for me. It started as a hobby. You see, I’m a full-time, work away from home mom with three little monsters. They are my life. That was part of the problem. I was working 40-hours a week at my job and spending every waking moment taking care of my three kids (who I absolutely adore and wouldn’t change for the world) but I wasn’t taking care of me.
“Self-care” is the new buzzword these days and for good reason. We cannot take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves first. I have always done a fantastic job of telling others how to take care of themselves. Have I taken care of myself? Absolutely not. If you asked me a year ago what my hobby was, I would say spending time with my kids. That’s not a hobby and anyone who says it is, is lying to themselves. Just like I was. If you asked me how I relaxed, I would have said I don’t. I lived day-to-day and didn’t allow myself to have anything that was mine.
So here I am… My self-care is writing to you. Writing for you. Why? I have a helluva lot of experience in many different aspects of life. It has taken five years of teaching resilience skills for me to realize that my experiences can help others. Chances are, if you’re reading this, you have a little monster (or two, or three, maybe four or more). Here are a few things we talk about:
- Kids, kids, kids
- Sick babies
- Picky eaters
- Messy rooms
- Sleepless nights
- Autism and ADHD
- Raising resilience kids
- Words of encouragement
- Little girls who grow up too fast
- Monsterisms (funny stuff my kids say)
- Self-care and self-love for parents (moms AND dads)
